The Government inquiries into the Sharia Councils are just beginning, but have already faced a complaint from more than 100 Muslim women.

They are concerned that the inquiries will be trying to shut down the Sharia Councils, being the tribunals that apply Islamic laws to a range of situations including Islamic divorce.  The Home Office has said its inquiry is an independent review of the application of Sharia law.

We will have to see how the inquiries develop, but such early complaints are likely to have an influence.
