If parties are able to agree then that is fantastic and their agreement can be ratified by a court.  Not all marriages end amicably which makes it very difficult for parties to agree.  Gary's was a shortish marriage with no children and we do not know what he has had to pay to Danielle but they agreed it.  At Freeths, we encourage people to try and agree their finances and child arrangements either direct, through collaborative law, through solicitors or through mediation.  If one or other party will not agree then, unfortunately, litigation is likely to follow.
