There was an interesting article in The Daily Mail recently, albeit quite a sad statistic providing that one in ten people over the age of 65 are now divorced which is twice the level at the turn of the century.

However, another article the very same day provided that the 'popularity of marriage is rising again after a 40 year decline!'

I have seen in my experience as a family lawyer more people separating in their mid 50's which can often be as a result of couples growing apart after their children have grown up but pleasingly, a lot of these clients are keen to resolve matters amicably by agreement.

I have also seen an increase in the number of couples wanting pre-marital agreements and recently finalised an agreement for a couple in their 70's who had both been married before and wanted to protect their assets for each of their children.
